What are the causes of chondromalacia patellae

1

What is chondromalacia patellae

Chondromalacia means softening of the cartilage, and Patellae means the knee-cap. So Chondromalacia patellae means softening of the articular cartilage of the knee-cap. The articular cartilage is the cartilage lining under the knee-cap that articulates with the knee joint. Under normal circumstances, it is smooth and shiny, so that it glides smoothly along the articular groove of the femur as the knee bends. When it softens, it may break down, causing irregularities along the undersurface of the patella. What causes Chondromalacia patellae

Chondromalacia patellae occurs in two distinct age-groups

It can happen in the older age-group (in the 40's and beyond) when the articular cartilage breaks down as part of the wear-and-tear process that occurs with the rest of the body.

It can occur frequently in teenagers (especially girls) when the articular cartilage softens in response to excessive and uneven pressure on the cartilage, due to structural changes in the legs with rapid growth, and muscle imbalance around the knee. Any flexion of the knee increases the tendency of the patella to dislocate. Undue pressure is placed on the lateral (outer) facet of the patella. Moreover, in many of these teenagers, the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis components of the Quadriceps muscle are not well-balanced. The vastus lateralis tends to be more powerful than the vastus medialis, thus increasing the tendency for the patella to track or dislocate laterally. This again puts undue pressure on the lateral facet. This uneven and excessive pressure on the lateral facet of the patella leads to cartilage softening and breakdown.

What is it bursitis

Bursitis is the inflammation of a bursa. Every person has hundreds of bursae scattered throughout the body. The function of a bursa is to decrease friction between two surfaces that move in different directions. Therefore, you tend to find bursae at points where muscles, ligaments, and tendons glide over bones.

What is the cause of it

Bursitis can either result from a repetitive movement or due to prolonged or excessive pressure. An example of prolonged movement is the condition called "Miner's Elbow" in which a bursa over the elbow joint is inflamed from repetitive motions such as swinging a miner's pick. This same syndrome is see more commonly today in professions such as custodians who repetitively push and pull a vacuum.

The other cause of bursitis is due to excessive pressure on a bursa. This is seen in a condition called "Housemaid's Knee." This syndrome causes bursitis over the kneecap as a result of prolonged kneeling. It is often seen in people who spend long periods of time scrubbing hard floors, thus Housemaid's Knee. It is also seen in gardeners, carpet layers, and roofers, and that is why you see people in the professions wearing kneepads

.

Bursitis can also be associated with some infections such as staphylococcus and tuberculosis, as well as some systemic diseases such as gout and arthritis. The most common sites for bursitis are the hip, knee, elbow, and heel.

ʏ

What can it be affected by

Inflammation can be a result of friction associated with any of the following

Repetitive motion

Pressure to the joint

What is rotator cuff

The rotator cuff is a component of the shoulder joint that aids in allowing the shoulder to function as the most unique joint in the body. Because of this mechanism, the shoulder joint can move and turn through a wider range than any other joint in the body; this allow us to perform an amazing variety of tasks with our arms. Unfortunately, the shoulder can be relatively easily injured, making many routine activities difficult and painful. The rotator cuff is part of this mechanism that, when healthy functions very well, but when injured can be a difficult and frustrating problem.

The rotator cuff is actually made of four muscles that attach to the shoulder blade (scapula), and wrap around the front, back, and top of the shoulder. Together these muscles help guide the shoulder through many motions, and also lend stability to the joint. The ends of the rotator cuff muscles form tendons that attach to the arm bone (humerus).

Injures to the rotator cuff

A rotator cuff tear occurs when the tendonitis in the rotator cuff gets so bad that it wears a hole through the rotator cuff tendon. Since the tendon is what connects the rotator cuff muscle to your humerus bone, when the tendon is torn, you have weakness in the shoulder. Usually these tears occur in people who have had shoulder pain for some time (called a chronic rotator cuff tear). This is, by far, the most common type of rotator cuff tear.

ʏ

What can it be effected by

The rotator cup can be effected by any of the following movement .that are either ballistic or hyper

Flexion - extension

Internal rotation - extension

Adduction - abduction

How may injuries be prevented in exercise ?

Be in proper physical condition to play a sport.

.If you play any sports, you should adequately train for that sport. It is a mistake to expect the sport itself to get you into shape. Many injuries can be prevented by following a regular conditioning program of exercises designed specifically for your sport.

Know and abide by the rules of the sport.

The rules are designed, in part, to keep things safe. This is extremely important

for anyone who participates in a contact sport. Rules of conduct, including

illegal blocks and tackles are enforced to keep athletes healthy.

Wear appropriate protective gear and equipment.

Protective pads, mouth guards, helmets, gloves and other equipment is not for

sissies. Protective equipment that fits you well can safe your knees, hands,

teeth, eyes, and head. Never play without your safety gear.

Rest.

Athletes with high consecutive days of training, have more injuries. While

many athletes think the more they train, the better theyll play, this is a

misconception. Rest is a critical component of proper training. Rest can make

you stronger and prevent injuries of overuse, fatigue and poor judgement.

Always warm up before playing.

Warm muscles are less susceptible to injuries. The proper warm up is essential

for injury prevention. Make sure your warm up suits your sport. You may

simply start your sport slowly, or practice specific stretching or mental

rehearsal depending upon your activity.

Negative effects of exercise and eating disorders

Eating disorders continue to be on the rise among athletes, especially those involved in sports that place great emphasis on the athlete to be thin. Sports such as gymnastics, figure skating, dancing and synchronized swimming have a higher percentage of athletes with eating disorders, than sports such as basketball, skiing and volleyball. . Famous gymnasts Kathy Johnson, Nadia Comaneci and Cathy Rigby have come forward and admitted to fighting eating disorders. Cathy Rigby, a 17 Olympian, battled anorexia and bulimia for 1 years. She went into cardiac arrest on two occasions as a result of it.

Many female athletes fall victim to eating disorders in a desperate attempt to be thin in order to please coaches and judges. Many coaches are guilty of pressuring these athletes to be thin by criticizing them or making reference to their weight. Those comments could cause an athlete to resort to dangerous methods of weight control and can do serious emotional damage to the athlete.

In sports where the athletes are judged by technical and artistic merit, they are under enormous pressure to be thin, because many of the judges consider thinness to be an important factor when deciding the artistic score. In 188, at a meet in Budapest, a US judge told Christy Henrich, one of the worlds top gymnasts, that she was too fat and needed to lose weight if she hoped to make the Olympic squad. Christy resorted to anorexia and bulimia as a way to control her weight, and her eating disorders eventually took her life.

Athletes with eating disorders can be at a higher risk for medical complications such as electrolyte imbalances and cardiac arrhythmias. They are already engaging in strenuous physical activity and putting a lot of pressure on the body. Having an eating disorder puts them at great risk for sudden death from cardiac arrest. It is usually difficult to convince athletes that they are in need of help because they usually believe that they will become a better athlete, and perform better, if they lose more weight.

Coaches and trainers really need to educate themselves on the dangers and on the signs to look for in an athlete that may be suffering from an eating disorder. They must be able to recognize when healthy training routines turn into an obsession where the athlete turns to drastic measures to become thin and succeed in their sport. Coaches should also bring in nutrition experts to educate the athletes on healthy eating and to make them aware of how important it is to eat properly, especially when involved in such intense training. Counselling should also be made available to athletes that are suffering from eating disorders and they should be encouraged and supported to accept the help available to them. They need to be assured that they will not be criticized or looked down on if they do come forward with their problem.

Even though the novel Is sent in united state 10s' it is still relevant to us today. This is because basically the Great Gatsby is a love story, a novel about money, class, weath and poverty. Of cause the theme is based on love where people in any era can relate to. The 10s' was the post ww1 period when everyone was seeking entertainment. The stock exchange was booming. Dancing, parties was party of everyday life. Money was spent extravagantly on having a good time. People believed everything was possible. Money would be make, status could be gain and the future was going to be grate. Everyone believed they could be ring. This was the American dream. Gatsby's dream symbolized the American dream. Prohibition was in forced but the black market flourish. This enables many people to make money through bootlegging. Fitzgerald implies his central charater Gatsby made his fortune in this way.

The narrative technique is the method used by the novelist to tell the story. The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald has chosen to narrate the story thorough a narrator Nick Carraway. In the beginning of the novel, nick introduced himself as the perfect narrator as he states that he never judge people. We realize this is not true. He does judge people although he becomes critical about the Buchanans.

Nick both tells the story and participates in the the story. nick is kind of fictional who can be at the same time within or without whats happening. Minor characters such as Gordon, gossip and Gatsby himself are used to narrate the story to give details about other characters e.g. jordon told nick about daisy and his marriage

Fitzgerald's narrative technique also uses dialogue to balance nick's perception of what a character do and say. Nick's voice dominant throught out the novel. The responder is therefore led to trust his evaluation of what had happened in the novel. The use of narration establishes a close relationship between the writer and the responder

The characters in the novel are well drawn the theme are though provoking. The theme of the story is based mainly love, love is universal, not only in America, thus is suitable for many readers. Love of individuals like Gatsby loves Daisy. Love of status and money like daisy, as Gatsby had said 'her move is full of money'

Nick brought his mid west high value viewpoint to his observation in the novel. His narrative influences our judgenment. Gatsby is a deep person, he is unique form the others as nick has said ' he came alive to me…' when jordon tells nick the reason why he brought his massion across the bay. Gatsby has a high value; he is a dreamer who believes in love, his dream symbolizes the American dream. In daisy Gatsby sees an idealistic love, daisy is his dream Gatsby in daisy Gatsby in daisy Gatsby sees an idealistic love, daisy is his dream. His dream fails because he based his dream on a wrong person, a person who is shallow, materialism, nothing sees deep and superficiality. His dream is for daisy to go to tom and say 'I never loved you'. They could live happily every happy. He wishes that he could bring back the love they had for each other.

George character shows the reality of the fantasy between the west and the east. His home is a great contrast compare to the home of other characters in the novel. George is opposite to tom. Tom has money to fulfil myrtle's material desires since she is a social climber and materialistic. George can't offer as much in materials as tom can instead he offers her with real love, which is disregarded by myrtle. George has real values, he has dreams but does not necessarily need money to fulfill them.

Wealth is considered more powerful than morality. It's better to have dream and working towards achieving it than no dreams even though the dream is unrealistic and have no conscience and 'no soul'. Tom fits into this category as he is conscience and has no goals or dreams. He is shallow and superficiality.

'they are careless people tom and daisy who smash up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness kept them together and let other people clean up their mass'

Gatsby belived in the green light. The orgastic future year by years recedes before us. It eluded us then, but no matter tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning'

Tom and Daisy show the corrupt side of the America society in the 10s', materialistic and with no moral and values. They are very rich and show their wealth with their hous, cars and cloths. They don't live life with purpose or meaning, they seem they seem no to have any goals or dreams unlike Gatsby and George. There is no true love but it seems a marriage of convenience since 'rich girls don't marry poor boys'.

Daisy only sees Gatsby as an escape from her 'boring' existence. She not only ruins Gatsby's dream but plays a major role in his death. She let Gatsby to take the blame of the accident, which she was responsible for.

They are careless people tom and daisy smash up things and creatures and retreat back to their money or carelessness brought them together, and let other people cleaning up their mass.

Gatsby believes in the green light. The orgastic future that year by year recedes before us.

George is opposite to tom. He can't offer myrtle as much in materials as tom can but instead provides her with love which is disregard by myrtle. George has value and dreams. His dream does not necessarily nedd money to fulfill them.

The need for clothing is one of life's bare necessities. How we choose to wear it defines the kind of person we are or even our status in society. As people develop, the requirements in clothing change in order to meet physical and psychological needs of the specific age group. These requirements of the age group must also take into account the properties and design of the textiles as well as cost, construction and durability.

Clothing is needed for many reasons, but the three main reasons are, for protection against the elements, concealing our body for modesty purposes and lastly as a means of identification and social attraction. Human standards of decency changes along with the fashion and are likely to vary from culture to culture. This is due to the social practices, religion and traditions of the particular culture. The standards of clothing we wear can also change depending on a situation, location or time of day. Clothing in one situation that would be acceptable may not be acceptable in a completely different situation. Our society today is engrossed with body image and is not always pleased with the natural state of their own body and so use clothing as a means of altering the way we look and fashion is how we do that.

The way we dress is an expression of who we are and an insight into our lifestyle and is sometimes represented in the fashions we follow. Fashion is a style of clothing in which society believe is attractive and may change from one season to the next, whether the fashion be practical to why we wear clothing or not. Fashions change because our culture is always moving around and shifting. People are constantly changing physically and mentally and feel the desire for new things and just as we feel the need for new fashions, our individual tastes and requirements change with our age.

As people grow they go through a cycle which is broken up into different life period. As a person goes through these different cycles there are requirements to be satisfied in order to meet physical and psychological needs. For instance the needs of a child would be dramatically different to that of an adolescent. Children's clothing needs to be durable, expressive and colourful, strong easy to wash, is usually cheaper, comfortable and easy to get in and out of, whereas adolescents clothing needs to be similar to that of their friends various colours, texture designs and is usually is a little more expensive. Likewise with infants, young adults, middle-aged adults and elderly. Infants clothing generally needs to be non-irritating, cool in summer, warm in winter, comfortable, safe and simplistic. Young adults need to have versatile clothing that is easy to look after and styled to the individual and middle-aged adults usually do not need to be fashionable, just well-styled with durable fibre and are likely to withstand a lot of wear. Lastly, clothing for the elderly should be cost effective, of good design easy to care for, easy to get in and out of and most importantly comfortable.

The Era of the Ideal American Life

The 150's is thought of today as a time of nostalgic bliss (especially for the right wing conservatives), it was a time of sameness, conformity and "blending in;" it featured the perfect family, with the perfect life, sheltered in the perfect little house. People were assaulted with this image in every advertisement, television or radio show. They became obsessed with fitting the image.

Following the end of World War II, Americans had a grand desire to move on with their lives and promoted a return to normalcy. Marriage ceremonies were being performed in massive numbers and following those marriages there was a boom in babies. The citizens of The United States were ready to settle into a comfortable and safe way of life. The war had caused too much suffering and neglect and "by 145 almost every-one had a long list of unfilled material wants." "Never before had material products that Americans associated with 'the good life'-automobiles, dishwashers, stereos, televisions, and more-become so readily available to large segments of the population." It was a decade whose morality and values were centered on the media and it's depiction of "real life". The materialistic decade of the 150s was also a decade of conformity. The acquisition of material goods, which had been scarce in the Great Depression and during World War II, became the main focus of postwar lives. Material goods such as cars and other household items had become more affordable to middle class families and were viewed as an important addition to the suburban family. "Most citizens embraced the material benefits of prosperity as evidence of the virtue of 'the American way." This significant acquisition of goods was driven especially by the new way the media of television and advertising portrayed the suburban family life as the ideal.

Each family consisted of a mom, dad and children; gone were the days of living with extended family. "Unlike many urban neighborhoods, where immigrant parents or grandparents might be living on the same block…single family dwellers often left their relatives and in-laws behind. As a result, ethnic lifestyles were less pronounced in the suburbs." The dad went off to work each day to earn a living and put food on his family's plates while the mother took care of the children and did the housework (in pearls and flawless makeup no less). Conformity was everywhere in America - from cars to clothes, from social behavior to politics. Most women had one choice conform to be a housewife and mother. Most men dreamed only of success in the corporate world. It was an ideal society of "economic and racial homogeneity."

Do my essay on The 1950's: The Era of Ideal American Life CHEAP !

Despite the tempting calls of suburbia and consumer America, there were those who were against it. Jack Kerouac and Allan Ginsberg were the founders of the Beats, a group of professed bohemian writers who fiercely opposed the conformity of American society. "According to Kerouac, the word beat had various definitions and connotations for the writers such as despair over the beaten state of the individual in mass society and belief in the beatitude, or blessedness, of the natural world and in the powers of the beat of jazz music and poetry." Their works of art expressed contempt for the mindless American who followed the media/money driven culture of their time as well as sorrow for the loss of the "individual." The art that they produced went against all of the "ideals" of the 150's; everything that the typical American was "supposed" to dream of was subject to criticism by the beats. The beats were among the first radicals to dapple in drug use and experiment with their sexuality openly, for conservative America this was shocking. "Through their journey of social revolution, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac began their quest with one idea for America in mind Truth." They felt that Americans were so caught up in consumer culture that they had lost all sight of what was really important or "true" in life. Their poetry and literature are now revered as some of the finest works of art today, but ironically their message is still in need of enforcement.

What is the human soul? What does it consist of? How does justice or injustice effect the nature of the soul? These questions are what have been plaguing people for centuries. Plato attempts to answer these questions in his book Republic. Throughout the book, he utilizes many analogies to try to explain his point of view on this topic. However, the one analogy that truly sticks out in this book is the one of the multicolored beast, the lion, and the human being. This paper will attempt to reason with these questions and Plato's view of the answers to these questions.

In the Republic, Plato introduces a few creatures. The first which is a "multicolored beast with a ring of many heads that it can grow and change at will--some from gentle, some from savage animals."(588c) The second creature to be introduced is a lion and then a human. He then proceeds to mesh all of these creatures into one so that they grow naturally together, but to the eye the fusion of creatures appears to be a human. This is Plato's description of the human soul. The multicolored beast represents the appetitive part of the soul. Plato makes this the appetitive part because the savage heads represent the cruelty and greed in humans while the gentle ones stand for the goodness and mercy that also exists in humans. The appetitive part of the soul is the one that wants physical desires like money, power, and sex when left without something to keep it in check. The lion symbolizes the spirited aspect of the soul because the lion is a strong being that is thought to be the king of the jungle in a Spartan sort of way. The human being symbolizes the rational part of the soul because of the fact that Plato believed that only human beings were capable of logic and the notion of justice.

Plato reasons that if a soul is to be in its best condition one should,

insure that the human being within this human being has the most control; second that he should take care of the many-headed beast as a farmer does his animals, feeding and domesticating the gentle heads and preventing the savage ones from growing; and, third, that he should make the lion's nature his ally, care for the community of all his parts, and bring them up in such a way that they will be friends with each other and himself. (58b)Custom writing service can write essays on Does a Monster Rule Your Life?

If one is to do this, then the soul will grow equally and be in its best condition. Reason and justice will rule making moderation the key in every aspect of life. This balance of all the creatures is essential for if one is

to feed the multiform beast well and make it strong, and also the lion and all that pertains to him...[while] starv[ing] and weaken[ing] the human being within, so that he is dragged along wherever either of the other two leads; and, third, to leave the parts to bite and kill one another rather than accustoming them to each other and making them friendly. (58a)

The savage heads would first kill its gentle heads and then battle the lion for control so that it would be able to gratify its pleasure in worldly ways. The lion would fight the savage headed beast fiercely for its own personal honor and power. These reasonings of Plato connect all the creatures together in such a way that the human being is the strongest and has the most control over the others because of his desire for justice and rational judgment calls while the others wish for their own individual gain instead of the purity of the soul.

The logic of Plato's reasoning is sensible. If the appetitive aspect of the soul rules one's life then they will only desire and appreciate the pleasures of life. The person ruled by this alone will have no desire to better himself. He will sacrifice not only the well being of his life but also the well being of others. Plato points this out in 58e when he questions,

can it profit anyone to aquire gold unjustly if, by doing so, he enslaves the best part of himself to the most vicious? If he got the gold by enslaving his son or daughter to savage and evil men, it wouldn't profit him, no matter how much gold he got. How, then, could he fail to be wretched if he pitilessly enslaves the most divine part of himself to the most godless and polluted one and accepts golden gifts in return for a more terrible destruction...?

He asserts that this lifestyle is the absolute worst because the one who is ruled by appetitive desires destroys himself and everyone and/or everything around him. He cares not for the quality of his life, only the quantity.

Plato's logic maintains that the life ruled by the spirited or lion aspect is not much better than the life of one ruled by appetitive desires. The one who leads this life only wishes for his personal honor and glory and yet again does not think of anyone but himself. Because of this desire for personal fame, the human being becomes selfish, obstinate, and petulant. "And aren't stubbornness and irritability condemned because they inharmoniously increase and stretch the lionlike and snakelike part?" (50b) When this part is increased, the thought of what is good for oneself and others diminishes and the only thought that remains is to be the best of everyone in physical accomplishments.

This logic insists that the only true, good way to lead one's life is in moderation. For moderation to occur, one must be ruled by the rational or human being part of the soul. When this is put into practice, one will appreciate the pleasures of the world and honor, but will not be enslaved by one or both of them. Instead, his life will be the most fulfilling for "he will always cultivate the harmony of his body for the sake of the consonance in his soul" (50d), "he'll look to the constitution within him and guard against disturbing anything in it, either by too much money or too little" (50e), and "he'll willingly share in and taste those [honors] that he believes will make him better, but he'll avoid any public or private honor that might overthrow the established condition of his soul." (5a) These quotations do nothing but exemplify how only moderation, through the rational aspect of the soul, can lead to the good life. But what is the good life? According to Plato, the good life consists of not only moderation in everyday life, but also to be able understand the universal values in their truest form. He gives the reader a diagram in 510a of how one is supposed to work their way up to the good life. The final products of these steps are the knowledge of the forms in their purest state and a clear understanding of dialectic. When one has these things in a moderate life, he or she tuly lives the good life of moderation and justice.

Plato's view on the soul is interesting to say the least. His comparison of the different aspects of human nature/soul to a human being, a lion, and a multicolored beast are not only sensible but creative and interesting as well. He explains his points well in the examples that he gives of all the possibilities of lifestyles ruled by each of the parts of the soul. The strengths of Plato's view are that he clearly defines each aspect of the soul, gives illustrations of each quality of life, and then logically and soundly determine why the rational way of thought and being is best. The weakness of his logic comes from when Plato states that, "it is better to be ruled by divine reason, preferably within himself and his own, otherwise imposed from without, so that as far as possible all will be alike and friends, governed by the same thing." (50d) Yes, it might be possible for all people to be ruled by divine reason, however no one will ever be alike in terms of what they feel is best for the greater good. For example in today's society there is a large debate on whether or not abortions should be legal. People who are pro-life declare that abortions are murder of helpless unborn children. People who are pro-life claim that first, a fetus' heart does not start to beat until after the first month and that there are many children in the world now who are unwanted therefore their quaulity of life is poor with no hope for it getting better. People ruled by reasoning argue for each of the sides and they both make valid points. Who is right and who is wrong? It is all a matter of opinion yet this debate has been going on for decades with each side claiming that they are in the right. However, to me, there is no other rational way than Plato's logic to characterize such an intangible thing as the soul. His reasoning is almost completely sound because he incorporates all aspects of human behavior such as greed/gluttony (appetitive), being power-hungry/the best of the best (spirited), as well as being rational in thought and behavior (rational).

So what truly is the human soul? No one but God can know the answer to that question, but I believe that Plato's view of what the soul is and how it is affected by human judgment and action is the closest to perfect that any human being has ever come up with. His logic is a good place to start thought on what the soul is and how it affects one's life even if someone does not agree with his view. He raises many questions of value that many people today do not think of in our modern world. Plato's views on human beings' behavior and soul are in more need of now than ever even if only to make a person sit back and question his or her own life for a minute.

Chapter 1, The Drop

I am the Orb. I am about ft. in diameter. I look a lot like a ball. I am being sent to the planet Echo 41. I am the ultimate war machine. I am to make peace with the native people. The natives are all hedgehogs about inches long, 1 inch in wide. They used to be dominating the planet until the Flood came. The Flood is a species of military like people that are trying to take over the planet. The Flood are about the size of an action figure, so it is almost impossible for the hedgehogs or the "Paq" to kill them. I, the Orb, can kill the Flood, but it will take me a while. When this drop ship I am on drops me, I am supposed to meet up with two "Paq" named Max & Joe. Here I go.

The landing was rough because the Flood didn't want me to drop. My men in the drop ship did a good job of killing them off and dropping me in a secret place. While there, my main radar and directional programs began running. Then I automatically adjusted my lens into focus and brightness to see on this new dark, barren planet. Although it was not always like this before the Flood came, I give off a slight greenish glow. I am reinforced with steel. I have two barrels on each side of my lens that allows me to see. They both shoot up to 00 rounds per minute. I also have one shotgun barrel sticking out below my lens that I can retract into myself while not in use. The hedgehogs are very strong and have their quills on their back that the guns the Flood shoot cannot penetrate. But if they are shot in their bellies or heads, they die quickly.Buy cheap Echo 421 term paper

I am doing a full systems check when I hear a noise behind me. I do a quick 60 degrees turn, but it is just a small bug. I use my twin thrusters to go slowly to where my program is telling me to go. I then hear a big noise behind me. It is a troop of Flood soldiers. Since I am so small, they have not yet seen me. I position myself wisely, then begin to fire rapidly right at them. I kill three but there is still one left. I pull back, and he is very confused. I then kill him easily because he was badly hurt.

Chapter , The New Info.

I then meet up with Max & Joe right where my program was telling me to go. I introduce myself and they give me the info. they knew about the positions of the Flood's weak and strong points. I follow them into their tunnels. They then take me to their friends, Bob and Jim. These four are the elite hedgehog fighters. They are some of the only ones left now that the Flood has overtaken this planet. Then while in these tunnels, I find out the terrible news that if the Flood capture this planet, it will be the last out of that the Flood need to form a super weaponThe Discombobulator.

I then decide that it will be wise for me to go out without the Paq and gather more information about the Flood's fighting power and technique. The Paq agrees, and I set out alone to see what I can find. Along the way I have to beat down some Flood but nothing is serious. My programs are telling me to go to a major Flood structure that is much larger than any of the other structures. I am holding something that could produce great power. I figure it is the point that the power from the other planets will link up with.

I charge up my small thrusters and punch it to the large structure. I stay well out of range and zoom in on the kind of protection. It is heavily guarded with twice as many Floods as I had predicted. I have a plan though and it is very risky.

Chapter , The Power

I go back to the tunnels and tell all the Paq to go to the structure and attack when I give them the signal. While they head out, I hit the boost and am there 0 minutes before they arrive. I bust my way inside by firing nonstop until I reach the inside of the building. Inside it is too quiet for a very special structure. I proceed on through a large door at the end of the hallway. I go through this door and I find hundreds of Flood creatures. I race back out of the building to find a safe spot.

I then signaled to the Paq to move in, and they did. I go in by myself and make a distraction. While their backs are turned, the Paq move in and wipe them out slowly but efficiently. I have the Paq secure the building and I go to the main room where I see an amazing sight. It is a super computer, the linking system, and something elsethe key to controlling the Flood. This specific part is only in this structure, so I have complete power at my chip tips. I research more and find that with the press of a button, little chips implanted in the brains of every Flood will explode, killing the entire Flood in seconds. This is to control population, but I am going to kill all of them.

Chapter 4, The Final Decision

After talking it over with the remaining government of the Paq and the government that sent me here, they decide to kill the entire Flood to restore peace to this galaxy. I select the nine planets the Flood is on in this galaxy, holding my breath and push the detonator. The entire Flood falls over. We all rejoice while the clean up of the bodies is going on.

The two of our governments join together on these nine planets and become the United Gov.'s. We keep this Discombobulation in service in case anyone tries to overtake us. I am allowed to live with the Paq and now I am to be one of the family.

The planet Echo 41 is no longer barren and dark. It is very bright, green, and has running water again. I have restored peace here for now and hope I will never be needed that much again. Although, if I am needed, I will carry out my duties as one of the Paq.

THE ATOMIC BOMBING OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI WAS IT NECESSARY? Christopher Philippi HS-10 May , 1 On August 6 and , 145, the only atomic bombs ever used in warfare were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The mass destruction and numerous deaths caused by those bombs ultimately put an end to World War II. Was this the only way to end the war, however? Could this killing of innocent Japanese citizens had been avoided and the war still ended quickly. This paper will go into this controversial topic. First, a summary of the events leading up to the bombing and the events that followed With the end of the European war, the Allies focused their efforts on Japan. Though they were losing miserably, the Japanese continued to fight back. The Potsdam Proclamation was issued to the Japanese. It made no mention of Japan's central surrender condition, the status of the Emperor. In Japan, the Emperor was viewed as a god. Therefore, Japan rejected the Potsdam Proclamation. The United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Russia declared war against Japan. Japan, because of its military, still refused to surrender. The Japanese government voted against surrender. Japanese believe in "death before dishonor." Japanese peace advocates feared for the safety of the Emperor. They begged him to break with tradition and make government policy by calling for peace now. As a result of the Emperor's call to surrender, the entire Japanese cabinet, including the military, agreed to surrender. The cabinet saw that this would allow the Emperor to be retained. The Japanese would have fought to the death if they did not feel the Emperor would have been spared. They may have been fighting a losing battle, but they saw unconditional surrender as a threat to the Emperor. President Truman had been advised of the importance of the Emperor to the Japanese. Japan was seeking Russia's help to end the war in July 145. The U.S. was aware of this at the time through intercepted Japanese cables. But, the U.S. did not keep up with this change in Japan's position. Instead the U.S. chose military methods of ending the war rather than diplomatic methods. The desire for revenge helped make military methods more attractive. After the creation of the atomic bomb was complete and before it was dropped there was uncertainty to whether or not it should be used. Many scientists argued that it should not be used. Truman had a difficult decision to make. He had much advice given to him towards making a decision. Leo Szilard's first version of his petition was more strongly worded than the final version. Regardless, on July , 145, he presented to President Truman his reasoning for not using the atomic bomb on Japanese cities. It was signed by 58 other scientists. Rejecting the pretense that the targets would be military, the petition called atomic bombs a ruthless annihilation of cities. The bombing of cities had been condemned by the American public only a few years earlier when done by the Germans to England. Previously it had been feared that the U.S. might be attacked by atomic bombs. The only defense then would be a counterattack by the same means. However, with that danger gone such an attack on Japan would be unjustified (Alperovitz 1.) A memorandum by Ralph A. Bard, Undersecretary of the Navy, to Secretary of War Stimson on June 7, 145 stated that before the bomb is ever used Japan should be given a few days notice. This position was based on the humanitarian feelings of our nation. In addition, Bard sensed Japan was searching for an opportunity to surrender. Bard proposed a meeting with the other superpowers, including Japan, before ever using the bomb. On July 16, 145, the atomic bomb was tested over the New Mexico desert. The Trinity Test was a spectacular success. A 6 kilogram sphere of plutonium, compressed to supercriticality by explosive lenses, exploded with a force equal to approximately 0 thousand tons on TNT. The report was done by Col. Stafford Warren, Chief of the Manhattan Project's Medical Section. It showed that the potential for radioactive fallout from the test was an important concern. Fallout from the test exposed a family living 0 miles from Ground Zero to dangerous 4 levels of radiation. The radiation monitors were so concerned they asked permission to talk to the family "to see how they feel (Schull 70)." Dead jackrabbits were found more than 800 yards from zero. A farm house three miles away had doors torn loose and suffered other extensive damage. The light intensity was sufficient at nine miles to have caused temporary blindness. Several observers at 0 miles were bothered by a large blind spot for 15 minutes after the blast. It was determined that exposure to this light from 5 miles away would cause severe damage to the eyes. Thus causing damage sufficient to put the enemy out of action for several days if not permanently. This is if they survived, of course (Schull 77.) The next day Leo Szilard and 6 co-signers at the Manhattan Project Metallurgical Laboratory petitioned President Truman to not use the atomic bomb on Japan. This version of the petition is updated from the first one and comes at an appropriate time following the test on the day before. It said if Japan still refused surrender after a warning of the power of this bomb, then and only then, may it be morally permissible to resort to its use. However, the development of atomic power will provide the nations with new means of destruction. The atomic bombs of today are only a step towards the destructive and scary future. If the U.S. uses this weapon, we will always have to be cautious in the future of other countries using it on us. In response to "Wouldn't the Japanese use it on us?" Possibly. But, Japan has had poison gas at its 5 disposal thoughout the war and has not once used it on American troops. The U.S. must concern itself with the views of other countries in this matter. If we were to violate our moral obligation our country would be weakened in the eyes of others. It would then be more difficult for us to live up to our responsibility of bringing the unloosened forces of destruction under control (Fasching 0.) Regardless of the warnings and advice President Truman still gave the official bombing order, July 5, 145. Truman told his diary that day that he ordered the bomb used. Emphasis had been added to highlight Truman's apparent belief that he had ordered the bomb dropped on a "purely military" target, so that "military objectives and soldiers and sailors are the target and not women and children (Alperovitz 6.) The written order for the use of the atomic bomb against Japanese cities was drafted by General Groves. President Truman and Secretary of War Stimson approved the order at Potsdam. Regardless of what Truman wrote in his diary that day the order made no mention of targeting military objectives or sparing civilians. The cities themselves were the targets. The order was also open-ended. Additional bombs could be dropped as soon as made ready by the project Staff (Schull 7.) Although he never publicly admitted it, President Truman had second thoughts about using atomic bombs on cities. On August 10, 145, having received reports and photographs of the effects of the bombs, Truman 6 ordered a halt to further atomic bombings (Fasching 0.) Is this not evidence that Truman made a mistake in his decision? I do not think this makes Truman a bad guy, though. I believe he truly believed dropping atomic bombs on Japan would save American lives by ending the war sooner. Truman was rushed into the president job, filling in for the late Roosevelt. I do not believe he was prepared for this kind of decision-making. These excuses for Truman do not, however, excuse what the United States did to Japanese civilians. Japan was losing the war miserably anyway. The only thing stringing the Japanese along was their pride and concern for their god, the Emperor. The only reason we would not allow them to surrender was because it wasn't unconditional. However, in the end it was the Emperor that led Japan into surrender and was allowed to remain. So basically it was all pointless. We could have allowed Japan to surrender earlier, keep their emperor, and avoid killing those innocent people. If the U.S. was not successful in making Japan surrender even with allowing the retention of the Emperor there was always the threat of Russian invasion. Then if neither of these alternatives worked, then resort to using the atomic bomb. But at least exhaust all other alternatives first, right? If feeling sorry for the enemy's civilians is not in your taste, think about who else suffered from these bombings. Up to two dozen American prisoners of war were killed by the Hiroshima bomb. The Nagasaki bomb killed Dutch POW's and maybe some Americans as well. Over 1,000 7 Japanese-Americans who were sent to Hiroshima when the war broke out were killed also. The statistics go on and on. It was not just the Japanese that were affected by this catastrophe. Tell the history books to print this version of the story! Alperovitz, Gar. The Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb and the Architecture Of an American Myth. Alfred A. Knopf New York, 15. Fasching, Darrel J. The Ethical Challenge of Auschwitz and Hiroshima Apocalypse or Utopia?. Imagination has always played an important role in shaping one's characteristics. We see imagination playing similar role in Macbeth's life before and after he murders King Duncan. Before murdering Duncan, Macbeth imagines a dagger leading him to the king's chamber. After murdering King Duncan, Macbeth hears some voices saying "Glamis hath murder'd sleep and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more." It seems that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth guilty of what they have done and it is their conscious that is driving them crazy. Macbeth also sees some ghostly images of Banquo later in the play when he assassinates him.

Just before Macbeth is about to kill Duncan, he sees a dagger before him. It is his conscious and it seems as if he is too tensed by the idea of killing the King. He imagines all the blood dripping from the dagger. He also sees the dagger directing him to King Duncan's chamber. While he is imagining the dagger, he also imagines the nature which seems dead and how the nightmares must be torturing King Duncan as he is asleep, "Now o'er the one half world, nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse the curtain'd sleep". Although Macbeth visualizes the entire horrifying thoughts (relating to killing Duncan) gush through his mind, he gets the deed done.

After Macbeth kills Duncan he hears some voices saying "Macbeth has murder'd sleep, therefore Macbeth will sleep no more". This again is his conscious as he and Lady Macbeth feel guilty about what they have done. Macbeth imagines that he has murdered the sleeping king Duncan and therefore stealing his own sleep. Although no ones knows about this deed, Macbeth feels extremely guilty and is not able to concentrate on what is going to happen next. He seems to have been lost in his own imagination. "I'll go no more I'm afraid to think what I have done; Look on't again I dare not. "

The last key imagination that Macbeth envisions is the ghostly images of Banquo at the dinner table. Macbeth has invited some guest to dinner at his castle. As everyone is beginning to start their meal, one of the murderers of Banquo comes and breaks this news to Macbeth. Macbeth is pleased to hear the news. As he comes back to the table, he sees a ghostly image of Banquo sitting at his chair. This again is Macbeth's imagination. The ghost seems to frighten Macbeth and Macbeth starts talking absolute nonsense in front of everybody, "Thou canst say I did it never shake Thy gory locks at me." In this part Macbeth is talking to the ghost claiming that he hasn't done the killing. Another example, "Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; thou hast no speculation in those eyes which thou dost glare with.", this is another part from the same scene when the ghost disappears and then reappears again. In this scene Macbeth is totally occupied with his imagination of Banqou. All this drama led to the dismissal of the guests in a very inappropriate and dishonorable way.Write my Essay on Macbeth's Imaginations

Imagination appears to have played a significant role in Macbeth's character throughout the play. It is interesting how Macbeth imagines one thing and does something else, for example, before killing King Duncan, Macbeth argues various reasons to not kill him. Eventually, he kills him. Macbeth also differentiates between his two sides and after committing something evil, his other side haunts him back.

How does literature challenge and validate my values and beliefs?

Eddie Chu

Literature is written by many different people who all have their own distinctive set of beliefs and these people all have different experiences and backgrounds. By reading literature published by these unique people, I am thereby exposed to many people¡¦s point of view. However, I don¡¦t always agree with these people¡¦s opinion and beliefs at all time, they sometimes challenge my own value and ethics on particular issues as well as validating them for me. Literary pieces such as ¡§6 Degree of Separations¡¨, ¡§Three Passions¡¨, ¡§Shades of Grey¡¨ and ¡§Nine-Year Olds, Meet Monet¡¨ have truly showed me the power of literature because each one has interacted with my values by challenging and validating them. Each one of these pieces provided not only entertainment to one who reads it, but it also teach important lessons for anyone. Whether it is concerning with the issue of homosexuality, passions, depressions or educations, the different opinions of authors have allowed me to see things in another¡¦s shoes.

¡§6 Degree of Separation¡¨ is a piece of literature about homosexuality that has taken as the form of a video. This movie talks about the main character Paul, who is pretending to be someone he¡¦s not so he can be accepted in today¡¦s society. One of the factors why he wasn¡¦t accepted in the society is because of his sexual preference; hence he tries to pretend to be part of the hierarchy of society. The fact is that gays are often neglected and discriminated against in the society; he therefore strives in every way possible for society¡¦s approval, and sometimes even by means that are intolerable.

Order Custom The importance of Food paper

Homosexuality was something that I thought of as unreasonable, and this movie was one of my first exposures to the homosexual¡¦s point of view, and this movie had opened up a whole new way for me to see things. All of a sudden, I realized that even homosexuals have their own story since they too are real people and they too are victims in today¡¦s harsh civilization. I realized that sexuality preference should not affect a person and whether they are good or bad, and this was proved by my sympathy towards Paul growing as the movie progresses and more information was revealed. I actually felt sorry for him; I felt that his isolation and the hostility the society was giving him was the only cause of his action, therefore he doesn¡¦t mean to be bad. I was initially disgusted by Paul¡¦s action when I found out that he was lying, however after the movie discussed his point of the story, I suddenly felt sympathetic for him.

I can¡¦t say that ¡§6 Degree of Separation¡¨ had suddenly changed my mind completely, especially on the topics of sexuality, but I feel that acted as a very good stepping stone towards my acceptance of homosexuals, because it provided me with a lot of background and support where other people¡¦s opinion are also valid. This movie mainly showed me that even homosexuals have their stories. This proved to me that my previous prejudice was not suitable, hence challenging and shaping my beliefs.

At the same time when literature is powerful enough to challenge my beliefs, it also does a magnificent job of validating them. It¡¦s comforting to feel that I am not the only one who thinks a certain way in the world, and that there are others who share the same opinion as me. A piece of literature that proved this was ¡§Three Passions.¡¨ At the time I was reading it, I had a feeling that this particular piece was written just for me. The passions that the author has always sought for are the same ones that I¡¦ve been looking for through out my whole life. I have always been searching for love, knowledge and the true meaning of life.

The paragraph about love especially brought me joy as I read it. ¡§¡K Because it brings ecstasy ¡V ecstasy so great that I would often have scarified all the rest of life for a few hours of this joy.¡¨ (Russell) This is very true in my case since friends are currently one of the most precious things in my life; they bring me endless amounts of happiness and relieve my loneliness just like the author have stated in the piece.

¡§Shades of Grey¡¨ is also another piece of influential writing. When the author says ¡§Shades of grey wherever I go, the more I find out the less that I know. Black and white is how it should be, but shades of grey is all that I see,¡¨ This was something I was feeling through out my whole life. Why are there so many uncertainties and so much depressing events that keep occurring? And no matter wherever I go, I see things that are uncertain; shouldn¡¦t it be easier to justify between what¡¦s right and what¡¦s wrong, instead of seeing everything in the middle, facing bias and unfairness.

I found this poem rather comforting because of the fact that I feel a strong relation between the poem and myself. The author was generally experiencing the same thing that I often experience, confusion in my own identities, conflict with peers and family, or miscommunication between different people as well as the difficulties of distinguishing the differences between what¡¦s right and what¡¦s wrong. It¡¦s because of the relation between the poem and me that made this poem extra meaningful to me. Since I agree with the content of the poem, this proves to me that someone else also feels the same way as me, therefore also validating my beliefs.

the dyadic relationship of a buyer and a seller, bonding can be described as a dynamic process that is progressive over time (Dwyer et al., 187; Ganesan, 14; Levitt, 18). The bonding process begins with the very basic force of the need for a seller to find a buyer for their product, and the desire for a buyer to purchase a product that will satisfy their needs. As time goes on, this relationship then advances toward interdependency between the buyer and the seller, which will finally lead to a situation between the two where there is total commitment on the part of both parties. Termination costs now restrict or almost prohibit an easy dissolution of the bond. At this advanced stage in the relationship, the bonds are so solidified that they are almost impossible to break (Heide and Weiss, 15).

At the lowest or most rudimentary level, bonding begins as a result of the fulfillment of a basic business need on the part of both parties involved, and then grows as a social relationship develops between the vendor and the customer. One has a product/service to sell and the other has need of purchasing a product/service. Whether or not a bond will develop between the two parties, depends on such factors as the fit between the vendors product/service and the sellers needs, the price of the vendors product/service (Berry, 15), the expertise of the vendor at providing a quality product/service and quality follow-up service (Sheth, 14), and the ability of the seller organization to make and keep realistic promises to the customer (Bitner, 15).

The influence of some of these factors mentioned above was reflected in the study done in the mainframe computer market referred to previously. When asked what factors were important to their satisfaction with their mainframe vendor, a majority of the participants offered the following a high level of technical knowledge of the account representative, post purchase follow-up by the vendor (other than to sell an ancillary product), and a vendor who maintains good communication with the customer (Cann, 15). It is believed that these intangible factors brought forth by the focus group participants are a reflection of what they expect from a basic business relationship with a vendor. At this level of the relationship, the bonds that hold the two parties together are rather weak and can be broken without a great deal of disruption or cost to either party. After the basic business relationship is established, and, if the two parties like each other, a social bond begins to develop as time progresses and the two parties experience more and more satisfying interaction (Dwyer et al., 187).

Social bondingCustom writing service can write essays on RELATIONSHIP MARKETING

The social bond is an outgrowth of personal relationships that develop between the parties involved from both the buyer and the seller organization. The better the personal fit between the parties, the stronger the social bonds. Wilson (15) explains that studies that have been done on social bonding reveal that if a strong personal relationship develops between the buyer and the seller, both parties will be more interested in continuing the relationship.

One example of social bonding also comes out of the focus group interviews that were done for the mainframe computer industry. An overwhelming number of participants answered that less turnover of account representatives made them more satisfied with their vendor (Cann, 15). The reason for this was that when the customer became familiar and comfortable with the account representative, they did not want to have to go through another period of adjustment with someone new. The participants added that often they liked their current representative and were never sure if a new one would fit in as well.

Czepiel (10) emphasizes how important closing social distances are for a long-term relationship in service situations. He states that, The three-Martini lunch does have a real purpose. Gaining a buyers trust is a critical task in many marketplace settings . . . , and establishing a social relationship parallel to the professional is a more `natural approach than a legal contract (p. 04).

Proposition The stronger the social bond between the buyer and the seller, the greater the possibility that the relationship and the bonding process will continue.

Step eight add value to the relationship

As the two partners experience repeated business exchanges that have resulted in satisfying outcomes, the relationship begins to move toward a new level (Ganesan, 14; Webster, 1). Anderson (15) suggests that these repeated exchanges or business strands add value to the relationship. It is this authors contention that it takes more than just successful repeated exchanges between the buyer and the seller to add value to the relationship. The author believes that to attain an even stronger bond, the seller must do more than provide a quality product and service. The seller must make an extraordinary effort. Social bonding in the relationship creates added value to some degree by creating a comfortable, trusting atmosphere to do business in. However, to add real value to the relationship requires the seller to provide exceptional service.

The author proposes that the ultimate service support is provided when the vendor aids the customer with implementation of a new product. This process of implementation consists of all of the necessary changes the organization needs to make to prepare for acceptance of a new product (Cann and Burger, 16). The implementation process also involves learning to use the product to its full potential (Cann and Burger, 16). In the case of a high technology product such as a mainframe computer, vendor involvement with implementation can provide much needed help to the customer organization. Tornatzky and Fleischer (10) indicate that implementation is one of the most critical aspects of new product introduction and acceptance into an organization, but yet it is often the most overlooked. The changes that implementation can bring with it can involve everything from resistance to change by users to the redesigning of departments or divisions to changes in human resource policies and procedures to changes in the physical plant. The author contends that it should be part of the service relational marketing effort of the seller to help the buyer to overcome these substantial and risky changes so that the implementation process will be less invasive, meet with less resistance, and cause fewer disruptions to the buyer organization. It is suggested that this type of extraordinary marketing effort on behalf of the seller adds value to the relationship by satisfying the customers need for a vendor who provides solutions, helps to solve problems and offers a true partnership.

Proposition 4 The greater the participation by the seller in the implementation process of the new product into the customers organization, the greater the added value to the relationship.

This is also the stage of the relationship where trust begins to mature between the two parties, as they become involved in a tighter more sophisticated relationship (Wilson, 15). As Ganesan (14) explains, trust in the relationship occurs over time and is a consequence of repeated satisfying interactions between the buyer and the seller.

Outcomes

Satisfying the customer should be a primary goal of the marketing strategy. Studies have demonstrated that customer satisfaction leads to customer loyalty and positive repeat purchase intentions (Anderson and Sullivan, 1; Fornell et al., 16; Patterson et al., 17). However, since satisfaction is cumulative, as explained above, it takes an effort both inside and outside of the selling firm to ensure customer satisfaction.

Satisfaction

The promises made to the customer from signaling can be equated with expectations. Disconfirmation, or the difference between these expectations and the actual performance of the product or service, strongly influences the customers satisfaction (Patterson et al., 17). The results of research into business-to-business, high involvement, professional services by Patterson et al. (17) indicates that ...consumer satisfaction/dissatisfaction is the crucial link in establishing longer-term client relationships and thus the strategic wellbeing of the organization (p. 14).

It is satisfaction that allows a basic business relationship to progress to the point where a high level of commitment exists between the parties involved, and where the dissolution of the relationship becomes increasingly difficult because of the strong bond that has developed. Under these circumstances, satisfaction is cumulative in nature (Boulding et al., 1). Anderson et al. (14a, p. 54) describe cumulative customer satisfaction as . . . an overall evaluation based on the total purchase and consumption experience with a good or service over time. As an example, the quality of the service that the buyer receives from the seller during the ongoing relationship may be considered a factor in influencing the customers overall satisfaction with the relationship (Anderson and Sullivan, 1; Cronin and Taylor, 1; Fornell, 1).

Proposition 5 The greater the satisfaction of the buyer and the seller with past interactions, the more likely it is that the parties involved will become more committed to the relationship.

As indicated above, satisfaction with previous outcomes can lead to a continuance of the relationship between the two parties. Ganesan (14) indicates that studies have found that commitment in a relationship is significantly related to satisfaction with past outcomes.

Remember your high school days? The pep rallies, the big football game, and how the football players were treated like royalty? In Children of the River, Linda Crew describes the world of Willamette Grove, where Jonathan McKinnon is your typical white, suburban, All-American boy. He is the big football star who everyone likes. Jonathan is described as your All-American boy, and for good reasons. He appears the part, he is very popular, and comes from the typical rich suburban background. As the story progresses that becomes more apparent.

First of all, Jonathan Mckinnon appears the part of the All-American boy. He dresses in jeans and t-shirts just like most of the people at Willamette Grove High School. As Sundara, his love interest put it, put it " Would the son of a well to-do-doctor dress in faded jeans, sweatshirts with ragged cut sleeves? In America, yes,"(41). Jonathan also wears a football jacket, as do the rest of the team. Now this goes back to him being a football player. Jonathan also appears the part by acting how de does. He walks down the hall with his cheerleader girlfriend, Cathy Gates, he hangs out with the football team, and he drives around in his convertible sports car. The fact that Jonathan dresses the part of the All-American boy, acts the part of the All-American boy, and just appears the part of the All-American boy makes Jonathan another in a long line of All-American boys. This however is only one of the reasons that Jonathan is the All-American boy.

The next reason Jonathan is an All-American boy, is the fact that he is popular. First of all he is the big football star at Willamette Grove High, which takes credit for most of his popularity. Secondly, Jonathan is dating the popular cheerleader. It is like something out of a movie. Cathy Gates is the cute little cheerleader and she and Jonathan are a perfect couple. According to Kelly, Sundara's friend, " 'She and Jonathan McKinnon have been going together forever', "(46). Also, people admire him. He is congratulated in the school halls after they win a football game, and even Ravy, Sundara's cousin, is impressed when Jonathan shows up at their house to see Sundara. "Ravy stared up at Jonathan. 'You really Jonathan McKinnon, the football player?',"(111) As you can see, all these reasons show that Jonathan is indeed popular which is a vital part of the All-American boy. This is the second reason Jonathan McKinnon is the All-American boy; there is one more reason.

Lastly, Jonathan's background is that of the All-American boy. First, he lives in a big suburban house. This is proved when Sundara goes to his house for a sailing trip she is "marveled as she parked the station wagon in front of Jonathan's huge white house. So big for only three people!"(), obviously an expensive house. This also illustrates that his family is wealthy. However, this is not a shock once considering that Jonathan's father is a doctor. This is uncovered when Sundara and Jonathan are talking, " 'Is your father a doctor?' 'Yeah, a pediatrician.',"(41). Sundara recognized the name McKinnon because when her family first came to America, Dr. McKinnon helped her cousin Pon when he was sick. Also, Jonathan's mother is the model suburban mother who is in the League of Women Voters and involved in school committees. This shows typical suburban parents where the father has a job in which he makes a lot of money (lawyer, doctor, accountant etc.) and the mother does not have to work. To emphasize the point even more, Jonathan and his family own a boat and regularly sail, and also ski, two activities that take money in which to participate in. The fact that Jonathan's family is wealthy, that his parents are typical suburban parents, a father who is a doctor, and a non-working mother. His family also takes part in activities that take money. This all proves that Jonathan's family is the typical suburban family.Write my Essay on Jonathan McKinnon in Children of the River is your typical All-American boy cheap

It is true that Jonathan is trying to shake that All-American boy image. He is befriending and actually is romantically interested in the girl who is different, the outsider, Sundara. Jonathan actually quits the football team, which sends his popularity in a downward spiral. It also seems that he cares a little less about what people think of him at the end of the novel than at the beginning. As his appearance is not quite what it started out as. However he can not be drifting very far from the All-American boy image if he still participates in or still has all of the stereotypical components of the All-American boy, which he indeed does. Though he cannot control all the elements that make him the All-American boy, he certainly does not try to prevent them. In conclusion, throughout the novel it is proven time and time again that Jonathan McKinnon is indeed your typical white, suburban, All-American boy. This is proven by the fact that he appears the part, is popular, and comes from the typical suburban family. Indeed Jonathan McKinnon is that All-American boy portrayed in movies, and I have a feeling he is going to stay that way.

Please note that this sample paper on Jonathan McKinnon in Children of the River is your typical All-American boy is for your review only.
