Attributes that a good engineer should have and why?

Introduction

With the technology we have in the twenty first century we enjoy and take for granted, comforts and benefits that were unthinkable only decades back. Yet we hardly think about how, why this is possible and who makes it possible.

Imagine a world without engineers. We are talking about a world without cars, planes, trains and certainly not mobile phones. Just two hundred years ago all this seemed a mere impossibility. For people of two hundred years ago, anything taking off the ground let alone an aircraft will be nothing short of a miracle. Engineers make miracles possible.

An engineer can be almost anything but not everyone can become an engineer. So to be a good engineer at that requires qualities and skills that are not so easily achievable. This places a grave importance on the attributes a good engineer possess and why.

Moral and ethical issues

So who is an engineer? An engineer is a person who designs, invents and evaluate things from resources that are available, so as to benefit the society. So an engineer's first responsibility is towards the society. To be a good engineer, you must be a good citizen first. This is because, no matter how well equipped an engineer is when it comes to academic prowess, engineers primarily, must have an appreciation and an understanding of the moral and ethical values of a society.

Whilst it is required for an engineer to be smart/intelligent and good at maths and the sciences, a good engineer, however, is smart and intelligent but also common sensed. A good engineer is good at maths and sciences but also enjoys and possesses a passion for it. A good engineer understands that this profession is not just about him or herself but also about the responsibility he or she has for a society and hence realising the social obligations and responsibilities that come with it.

Leadership qualities and working as part of a team

An important attribute of a good engineer is leadership qualities as well as the ability to work as part of a team. As an engineer, most of the time you work in a team either to solve a problem or to complete a project in the most efficient manner.

In these scenarios a leader is vital because a true leader has the ability to unite a team. A leader understands each of his team members and represents them. The idea of being a leader is to be fair, resolve disputes and to come to a compromise with the ideas that are presented by individuals. A team with a good leader will progress to higher levels while enjoying the work.

While it is important to have leadership qualities, to be a good leader you must essentially be a good team player. Most of the time, lot of conflicting views will come into open to the individuality of each member of the team. In a situation like this a good engineer will be willing to hear out other ideas and come to a compromise if all parties cannot be satisfied, which is usually the case.

Both a leader and a team member need to communicate well.

Communicational and listening skills

The fact that, communicational skills are important for a good engineer is an understatement. Everyday an engineer needs to communicate. May it be to your superiors, peers or customers, engineers need to have the skills to put forward their ideas and give information, simply, clearly and concisely.

Communication is not just about oral communication but also about communicating in writing. No matter how brilliant an engineer's ideas are, it will be of no use if the engineer is unable to present it either to his/her fellow engineer or to the public, orally or in writing. Hence, rendering the engineer useless.

An engineer needs to communicate to people from different walks of life. This includes your peers and also the general public. An engineer cannot communicate with a person who is not of an engineering background the same way he/she communicates with a fellow engineer.

While it is good for your opinions to be heard it's more important to listen. A good engineer has to be a good listener in order to get a solid and complete understanding of the situation or problem they are presented with.

To have good listening skill, an engineer must be broadminded. Only then can he/she can fully co-operate with his/her peers and truly listen to them. An engineer must be broadminded to accept changing trend, methods and other ideas.

A good engineer always remembers that a problem is best solved and analysed when done so with an open mind.

Analytical skills

So an engineer needs to grasp, understand, evaluate and solve various situations and problems. This is where analytical skills are essential. A good engineer needs to analyse and critically assess available data in both familiar and unfamiliar territory to arrive at good judgement.

Practical skills

An engineer cannot be just a theorist. Not only does he need to come up with the design theoretically, he must also understand how it would be implemented practically. An innovative design, which is impractical, achieves no purpose.

Being practical will help the engineer to better understand the applications of the many theories and concepts that he/she have and will come to learn. In having a hand in both the theoretical and practical side of the design, an engineer can help to make the transition of that design into reality much smoother and more efficient.

Honesty and integrity

For an engineer to adhere to the moral and ethical values, one of the principals an engineer should abide by is honesty and integrity. An engineer has to be honest and true to him/herself as well as the society. Due to great responsibility and authority that an engineer has, a dishonest and/or unethical engineer can be very harmful to the society as a whole.

A layman would not understand the complexities and problems in designing a product, hence builds a trust with the engineer. A trust that the product would be of excellent quality as well as that it was built as economically as possible. When presenting with a final cost, the engineer has an easy opportunity of abusing this trust but by doing so breaks a sacred bond between the customers and engineers and brings disgrace to a very proficient profession.

Being Knowledgeable

An engineer needs to be abreast of things. This not only means the newest developments in his/her field, but also the current affairs of the world.

Being knowledgeable will give you, as an engineer, a broader and more competent understanding of the problems and hurdles that he/she may face. It will make you a more complete person, who has ideas and opinions on most of the issues that do and do not relate to their field. By doing this, they build a larger database that they can access for a better understanding and use to inference from when they are confronted with difficult decisions or problems.

His innovations must be in-tune with the changes that are taking place in the world.

By being knowledgeable gives you the freedom and opportunity to be more creative and gives you the ability to express your ideas in an up-to-date and relevant (with world issues) format.

Creative and imaginative thinkers

A good imagination is an attribute that is a requirement of any profession that requires the person to be creative in their work, be it be an artist, a mathematician, a surgeon, a programmer and many more.

Being an engineer puts you in very complex and unique situations where the solution can be very evasive. To arrive at such evasive solutions, one needs to be creative and have an open-mind. Creativity can mean the difference between completing a project late or on time, going over budget or being under, providing an ordinary solution or an extra-ordinary one, and ultimately being just an engineer or a good engineer.

Unfortunately, just getting creative ideas does not mean that they will be used. This is due to the fact that man's common nature is to oppose change… that is to oppose anything that is out of the ordinary, and being a good engineer means that you are always striving to be extra ordinary and hence there will no doubt be opposition. This is where a strong character comes into play.

Strong character

Being intelligent, creative, knowledgeable, ethical, honest and practical will give you the foundation, but to build from there you need confidence and independence. This is the confidence in yourself, in your ability, in your knowledge and your capability to implement this knowledge. When you have this you will become independent, be able to believe in yourself and get things done.

These two coupled will give you the strong character needed to look in the hurdles and challenges that will come your way and not just overcome them, but overcome them in the most efficient and beneficial way. For example, when presenting a new idea to your superiors, you need to be able to answer any question unfalteringly, be able to back anything you present and be confident in your design and you ability to realise it.

As an engineer, you will most certainly be in charge of a project or a team(s). Not everyone will always work 100% and give it their best. There will inevitably be some that will cripple or slow the team down. Here you need to be able to confront them and challenge them, to remedy the problem.

Patience, Persistence and discipline

A strong character needs to be always complemented by patience. Whereas not everyone will be always at their 100%, as an engineer, you need to be patient and try to understand reasons and try to arrive at a compromise to solve the situation. Engineers require strong discipline with hard-willed persistence to achieve their maximum potential.

Frustration and anger with colleagues or customers always creates tense environments and leads to arguments and conflicts that hinders the progression of the design and makes the whole engineering process inefficient. This is why Patience itself is an important virtue that an engineer needs to have, due to the many people out there who are varying in intellectual capabilities.

'If once you fail, try and try again', this is one motto that any engineer should adhere by. To adhere to this, he/she first must be confident that they have the ability of meeting the challenge. This is where persistence comes into play, if the engineer believes, it will give him/her motivation to persist, but to persist he/she needs to be disciplined.

Conclusion

In this report only some of the many attributes that a good engineer must have, have been presented. It's quite hard to describe a good engineer in a report because quite simply a lot of things contribute towards the making of a good engineer. While engineers are generally high achievers, good engineers have good general knowledge and social awareness. An engineer is a complete and a well-rounded person.

Engineers are vital in a society and the world would not be the same without them simply because engineers are scientists as well as builders and a world is moulded on their shoulders. They are the link between theory and innovations The link between dream and reality.

ABORTION! Stated in the dictionary is a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first twelve weeks of gestation. To me Abortion is the murdering of a human life who has yet to see daylight, but exists in the mother's womb because of someone else's decisions but it's own. This heinous act (Abortion) has been going on for hundreds of years and although the methods have become more advanced it continues to be very dangerous and is very painful, emotionally, and psychologically to most people.

Article 111 states that Abortion was illegal anyone who knowingly killed an unborn child would be confined to jail anywhere from two to five years and if an abortion was done without the woman's consent the punishment was doubled. Article 11 states that even an attempt to commit abortion would give you a fine of no more than $1000. These are just two of the five articles which made up the Texas Abortion Law which was enacted in 1857. This law was never amended. Jane Roe was a single woman living in Dallas Texas at the time of filing her action in Federal Court. She was unable to have an abortion because of the strict laws in Texas. Because of this, Roe brought suit against the district attorney Henry Wade. The case was not ruled in her favor but was later appealed to the United States Supreme Court. It was first argued on December 1, 171 and finally decided that the abortion laws were violating the th and 14th amendments due process clause. The clauses protect the government from interference of people's rights to privacy including a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy.

Since the case of Roe Vs Wade, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first Female Supreme Court Justice has defined what is considered a safe abortion and what is murdering a child that is viable (capable of living outside of the mother's womb). "Roe identified by viability at about seven months (8 weeks) or approximately 1000 grams, in weight, but recognized that it may occur earlier, even at 4 weeks. The twenty eight week old, weighing at least 1000 grams, now often has in the studies at least a 70 percent survival rate if born in or near a good hospital and a majority of these survivors appear normal after several years of follow-up" (A Legal Interpretation By Robert D. Goldstein p.4).Order College Papers on Abortion

Years later, in 17 "the United States courts of appeal overturned a Virginia policy that denied medical funds for abortions unless the woman's life was endangered." (Abortions....denying medical funds By Ashman, Allan p.116) This goes to show how abortion rights have improved in favor of women. The government was now being responsible and taking action against laws.

These laws have held its ups and downs throughout the years. People fight to preserve rights for freedom so they might have the choice to terminate a pregnancy. Although, you may think that with time comes positive changes that is not always so. It's ironic that in the year 00 the government has tried to pass a "bill that will let hospitals and other health care providers refuse to perform abortions without fear of penalty"(House Abortion Bill Provides Both Sides of Issues With Stage For Pre- Election Debate p.5). This means it will make it harder for women to find a hospital that can legally perform an abortion and would be covered by their health plans. This would force women to make desperate choices and have abortions performed in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The bill was never passed because most democrats and republicans knew activists were against them.

I believe abortion should be an open choice for all women, because every situation is different although women should take responsibility and not take it for granted. This is just some information on how some women have fought the system to make things smoother for women living today. Some women think abortion is wrong, but the decision should be left to the individual.

Cartoons were always enjoyment for people and there are many different

types of cartoons and animations. Asian animation has developed way

differently than western countries. Anime, Japanese animation, is very popular

in Japan, and now it has gained a followings in America and is beginning to hit

the mainstream. But the Americas lack of understanding about other country

led to very bad stereotypes and wrong impressions about Asian animation.

Those stereotypes come when they do not know well about Asian animations.

Also, other Asian Animations are improving and become better and better

everyday.

They are not that many nations producing as good quality animation as

Japanese. But there still are few Asian countries making many animations and

they all have their own styles. Japan is a leading Asian animation country and

making best animations in the world. Japanese animation is called 'Anime?and

present days the Anime is very popular in whole world. Anime has started very

long ago, first Japanese animation was produced during 117 and Osamu

Tezuka, a qualified doctor, created the first anime in Japan in 151. "Tetsuwan

Atom? or "Astro Boy?as it was known elsewhere, marked the advent of Anime.

Even though it is not as good quality and advanced as Anime, Korean

animation is second greatest Asian animation producing country. First Korean

animation started 156. Korea first official contacted with Japanese anime in

late 170's to early 180's by anime called "Great Mazinga.?This started the

anime boom in Korea and it influenced Korean animations. Korean animation

and Japanese anime is very close each other. Korean animation learned

technologies and styles from Japanese anime. Other Asian countries are not

really onto animation. Hong Kong or Taiwan has their great looking comic

books, but they do not have their animation. There are great difference between

the western animations and Asian animation. For example, Disney is most

famous western animation in the world, and Anime is most well known Asian

animation.

Major difference is the unique Japanese anime style and technique,

which is distinctive and fairly easy to recognize. Asian animations

contain greater details, for example, they contain shade on face,

shining hair and eyes under light, and fashionable clothes with

wrinkles. They also have many different styles of drawings, edge like

faces or smooth faces (Poitras 1)

Anime, or Japanese animation, is a style of animation most recognizable

by characters with large eyes and beautifully detailed backgrounds

(Merill 56). Once people watch anime, they will find besides spectacular

animation, anime has complex characters and deep stories, many of

which teach morals and values. Anime is a highly-used medium in

Japan. It appears in the movies and on TV. In fact, nearly one-half of all

tickets sold in Japan are for anime.

Some famous anime directors are Hayao Miyazaki, Reiji Matsumoto, Mamoru Oshii, Osamu Tezuka, Tatsuo Yoshita, and Katsuhiro Otomo. Hayao Miyazaki directs "lavishly illustrated, sincere, family-oriented, deeply resonate stories for children?(The Anime Filmmakers) such as "Kiki's Delivery Service"and "Laputa Castle in the Sky? He also directed "Mononoke Hime? a "creative and technical tour-de-force?(The Anime Filmmakers), which is the most popular film in Japanese history. He is the king of Anime. Reiji Matsumoto created Space Cruiser Yamato or Star Blazers as it was known here. Mamoru Oshii directed "Ghost in the Shell? "the current standard for high-tech anime filmmaking?(The Anime Filmmakers) Osamu Tezuka created "Tetsuwan Atom? known in America "Astro Boy.?Tezuka is also responsible for the 'large eye'look?(The Anime Filmmakers) found in anime, his anime is the first anime to produced in Japan. Tezuka is the father of anime. Tomino, Yoshiyuki created "Mobile Suite Gundam? the best and most famous mechanic anime in history, this anime is mother of mechanic anime. Katsuhiro Otomo directed "Akira? the first blockbuster anime film in America, it was cutting edge in both countries and it began the "adult anime revolution?-"violent imagery, complex stories, and controversial subjects (The Anime Filmmakers)?

There are three mediums for anime TV series, movies, and OVA, which stands for Original Video Anime. TV series are shown on TV, movies in the theatres, and OVAs go directly to video (Clements 4, 56). Some popular television and OVA series in Japan as well as America are Tenchi Muyo!, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, The Slayers, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Urusei Yatsura, Mach Go Go Go, Space Battleship Yamato, Ranma 1/, Ah! My Goddess, Pok?on, Gatchaman, Transformers, Yu Yu Hakusho, Voltron, and Birdy the Mighty.

Some popular movies are Tenchi the Movie 1 and , Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Urusei Yatsura , Project A-ko, Mononoke Hime, Galaxy Express , Be Forever Yamato, Laputa Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Grave of the Fireflies. When anime is translated into English, it can be found in two forms, dubbed, where voice actors put the words spoken into English, or subtitled, where the original dialogue is kept and the English equivalent is shown across the bottom of the screen (Kirkindall 0). Subtitled seems to keep more to what is actually being said, but some of the puns can be hard to understand while dubbed can make the dialogue make sense and sound funnier (Kirkindall 0). In the end, it's really just a matter of preference.

Korea, as mentioned, is second best Asian animation country in Asia. Korean animations are largely influenced by Japanese anime after import of Anime in the country. Korea produces lots of animations every year. They have TV series, OVA, and movie, but Korean animation never success. Korean animations have pretty nice qualities and looks but because of people's stereotype, Korean animation is really hard to success. Indeed, Korean animations are not as good and fun as anime, but people think Korean animations are worse than Japanese and boring. With this stereotype, every time people watch Korean animation the automatically think it's boring. This is brought the dullness of Korean animation (KOSCAS C). Korea and China both likes animations very much. But China doesn't have animation technology and supports to produce their own animations. Korea is keep learning from Anime and keep improving, and they are also keeping their own styles at same time.

What makes anime so cool? It's really hard to describe, but yet thousands of people all across the World, who can't describe it themselves, attend cons and are members of clubs. No one can really say what it could be-- the amazing detail, fantastic stories, the complex plots, or the unforgettable characters...It can be any of these. The growing popularity of anime in America has resulted in a large number of anime clubs being founded on college campuses and increasingly at high schools. Many clubs watch and discuss anime, produce newsletters or fanzines, have tape libraries for members, and organize special events. Some amateur clubs draw and study the anime and even produce them. "Anime has changed not in the past five years, but the past one year.?"Anime used to be cultish, you had to know someone, study Japanese, belong to a fan club.?(Trish Ledoux, The Anime Filmmakers) Now that otaku are being found all over the nation, more and more anime cons are taking place in America. "What better way to spend a beautiful summer weekend than by spending it indoors with a few thousand fellow freaks??(Pachi Pachi #1) "Otherwise normal people transform into robots, heroes, and strange creatures; people get your inside jokes, and most importantly, being a geek finally pays off.?(Pachi Pachi #1) Cons are great places to go to to meet and talk to distributors, dealers, production companies, voice actors, animators, translators, and other anime fans. "Cons are all about parties, obscure anime in the late night video rooms, finding a favorite anime, the cosplay, cool music videos, meeting the guests of honor, and singing karaoke.?(Pachi Pachi #) These fans are making anime little more than just animation.

Why do we watch anime? We've been asking ourselves that for ten years and it seems an indefinable thing. I think perhaps it's a visual sense. The Japanese go out of their way to make it look cool, appealing, and flashy. That about sums it up, why all anime fans gravitate towards this style of animation rather than Bugs Bunny or something more "American?-beautiful animation with a great story and cast of characters. "Stories deal with thought-provoking themes, present complex characters that change as the stories progress. In comparison with American animation, anime has a story and you can never be sure what the ending will be. It's not unusual for a major character to die, lose the one they love to another, or fail at what they're trying to do. In comparison with American animation, which are almost always 'Good vs. Bad?or have happy endings, anime deeply explores the moral and spiritual ambiguities of life and culture in a world pushed over the edge by rampaging technological progress. Characters are more complex, villains can be understandable and change their ways, heroes can show bad traits and even commit horrid acts.

Anime is "often overemphasized for gratuitous violence and sex (The Anime Filmmakers)?sometimes just to sell it. This is terrible because, for the most part, these rumors are untrue and once they get around to a certain person, anime becomes edited, censored, or classified as "adults-only?material, regardless of content. A big issue when it comes to censorship is violence. Much of the translated anime is action-oriented, mostly sci-fi and fantasy. Usually violence isn't any worse than what can be seen in TV or in movies, but it can be carried to extremes. When it is carried to extremes, all too many times anime is given a stereotype as "super-violent Japanese porn cartoons?which isn't remotely true, especially seeing as how ?0% of anime is aimed at children.?(The Anime Filmmakers) Also, because of the "cartoons are for kids?mentality, just a small amount of violence sets people off when what they need to understand is that violence happens. "Events have consequences. That's why violence is in the movies. People get shot, and when they do, they fall down and stay dead. This is something you don't see in American cartoons. Sexual content is usually only hinted at and rarely explicit. "One thing to remember is the American press often makes statements about sex in anime that are untrue.?Some people think anime is bad and evil due to what the media says, even if they have never seen it themselves, and what happens is censoring and makes getting anime to be brought over to America that much harder.

Asian Animations have bright future ahead of them. Korea is going to get better and increase it success rate. Japanese anime will be more popular and famous and they will going to keep the fans. Animation is controlling kids to adults. It's power is great, can even control the kids in whole world, like not a fan. If everyone respects more for animation and knows more about them is very useful for the fans. Hope, in future there would be no stereotype, and know more about animation. Asian animations are not worse than any other drawing and will conquer the economy of animations. I am not sure if I pasted the correct one or the ruff draft one... and I got too lazy and stopped correcting the lines... so its pretty massed up... but I think it was pretty good essay~ if it is the correct one.

Please note that this sample paper on Asian Animation is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Asian Animation, we are here to assist you. "A Chip Off the Old Cell"

The actual process of cloning is nothing new. It began in the 170s with the cloning of frogs. Scientists have cloned plants and animals for years since then. Recently, there have been continuing controversies regarding the process of human cloning, and whether or not our society has a use for it. On July 5,16, scientist Ian Wilmut (after 77 attempts), created first born cloned mammal which was a healthy lamb by the name of "Dolly". A process called somatic nuclear cell transfer accomplished this task. For example, a cell is first taken from a donor female, then an unfertilized egg is taken from a second female, DNA from the cell is removed and transferred to the egg which is implanted into a surrogate mother, and finally the resulting baby is genetically identical to the original donor(The Human Cloning Process). Since this extraordinarily scientific breakthrough occurred there have been many reactions. March of 17, President Clinton issued a moratorium banning the use of federal funds for human cloning for the following five years, giving the National Bioethics Board significant time to assess the risks of cloning and study ethical and social impacts. September of that same year, 64,000 biologists and physicians signed a voluntary 5-year moratorium on human cloning. January 18, nineteen European nations sign a ban, and the FDA announces its authority to regulate human cloning (The Human Cloning Process). The controversy is still ongoing, but has made some progress within the recent years.

People who are against human cloning state many logical concerns of its effectiveness and need in our society. The fear of the unknown takes a toll on the human psyche particularly on this issue. Lewis Thomas (11-1), a physician and scientist, states that his reasons for opposing human cloning is because "there is no end to protocol", meaning that in order to truly clone someone you would have to clone the people in their lives that had any affect on them as well which would be an endless task (Thomas 784). He also believes that the effects human cloning would have on society would be too traumatic. The scientist credited for "Dolly's" existence explains that cloning would result in a high number of miscarriages and deaths among newborns, and openly speaks against his own type of research. Many religions also outwardly oppose the concept when taken to certain extremes, stating that it is unethical to alter with God's work and it devalues human uniqueness and dignity. The National Bioethics Advisory Board adds to the argument with concerns about the technique's effectiveness and possible medical risks involved or how possible future black markets for embryos could occur. The House of Representatives Majority Leader, Richard Armey, wants to ban human cloning forever for he says, "this path leads to designer children, organ farms, and growing disregard for sanctity of life."(Human Cloning Process)

Arguments for human cloning propose new solutions to many of our societies long term, devastating flaws. The process of human cloning includes a number of steps, some of which include the research of stem cells. Stem cells are cells taken from the human body that have the capacity to constantly renew themselves, while maintaining an ability to adapt to the specific cell types needed by the human body (Grenaly). Stem cells could be used to regenerate nerve tissues and produce organs to repair or replace the damaged tissue or organs in diseased persons. Some of these prospective target cases would include people suffering from Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer, etc. For this type of research could be crucial to our survival as human beings (Global change). Many Senators support the research, but not the actual reproductive cloning and are currently trying to pass bills protecting the rights for research. "Human Cloning Ban and Stem Cell Research Act of 00" prohibits reproductive cloning but permits therapeutic cloning for research purposes. The National Institute of Health Director, Harold E. Varmus, supports research and encourages the public and the government to keep an open mind. The most radical of supporters, Dr. Richard Seed, makes claims that the cloning process could reverse the aging process, as well as, heart attacks. He is currently making attempts to raise funds to support his goals to carry out projects in other countries, if the United States does not approve. Others claim that cloning would be beneficial to produce better livestock with inherited disease resistance.Cheap University Papers on A Chip Off the Old Cell

Despite the controversial arguments surrounding the issue of human cloning there have been moderate progressions to discover the pros and cons. Many books such as Who is Afraid of Human Cloning, by George E. Pence, have been published in an effort to educate the public, as well as, urge society to think through questions that cloning rises at different levels rather than dismiss ideas out of fear or ignorance. If human cloning is ever incorporated into our society it will take time. The cloning process is in it early stages and unable to be fully understood currently by scientists around the globe. The first mammal to be cloned (Dolly) was put to sleep due to a disease that developed in her lungs, and scientists are researching the reasons why clones tend to develop abnormalities (Global change). However, stem cell research, which I believe to be most beneficial to our society, is rapidly progressing with each day probably due to the cloning cause. I personally do not favor the idea of human cloning, but to be able to succeed in utilizing stem cell research would be extremely beneficial to humanity, in my opinion.

Open Ocean Biome

The Open Ocean Biome is just one of the biomes that are categorized in the world. Oceans are always moving and have mountains, volcanoes and deep trenches on the ground floor. The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the four main oceans. Although its name means peaceful, this ocean can be very rough. The Pacific Ocean is 64 million square miles. The Atlantic Ocean is the busiest ocean. Many ships cross the Atlantic carrying cargo between the Americas, Africa, and Europe. It is around million square miles. The Indian Ocean is located in an area bordered by the continents of Asia, Africa, Antarctica, and Australia. It is the second smallest and measures at 8 million square miles. The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and the coldest ocean. It is only 5 million square miles. These four main oceans make up the biome that is known as the Open Ocean.

There are many different kinds of animals that live in the oceans of the world. Many times they are referred to as marine animals, which include fish and mammals. Fish are animals that do not need to come up for air to breath. The fish have gills that help them get oxygen to breathe. The mammals on the other hand, must come up to the surface every few minutes to take breaths of air in order to stay alive. Another type of marine animal that lives in the Open Ocean Biome is the mollusk. These specific animals have shells, such as oysters or clams. However, there is an exception for animals that do not that do not belong to the mollusk family. The Octopus is the exception; it does not have a shell, but is still considered to be a mollusk. Crustaceans are yet another variety of marine life under the sea. These animals include crabs and lobsters. The fish of the sea have few adaptations. These include sleek bodies to reduce friction while swimming, gills that allow them to breathe, eyes on the sides of the head to alert them of approaching enemies, fins to help them swim faster, and the color-coded or camouflaged skin to help them hide from their enemies.Custom writing service can write essays on Open Ocean Biome

Oceans are known for the marine life, but are also known for the plants that live in the water also. Plankton is a mixture of plants and animals that reside in the open oceans. Plankton makes up a huge portion of the food source for many species that live in the oceans. The part of plankton that pertains solely to plants is referred to as phytoplankton. Seaweed in the common term used for the Algae, which is any plant that lives under the water. Algae is the primary food source for animals that near or on the shorelines. Algae also has everyday uses that we take advantage of. The algae is a key ingredient in many products used by human such as paints, ice cream, toothpastes and medicines. The greatest concentration of plant life in the ocean can be found in Coral Reefs. In fact, the Cayman Islands is built upon nothing but a coral reef. This island is known for its beautiful reefs and is quite a popular place for snorkeling and scuba diving.

The Ocean Open Biome is also known for its climate. The average temperature of all oceans is about degrees F (.8 degrees C). The Open Oceans of the world though are known for having different temperatures. Tropical Oceans, which are near the equator, are warm and clear on the surface. In the cold polar regions of the far north and far south, the ocean is so cold that its surface is actually frozen. This happens most frequently in the Arctic Ocean. The Huge blocks of ice that develop in this ocean are called Icebergs, and are known to drift around in these waters. Although the Arctic Ocean is known for being the world's coldest ocean, all oceans are cold, dark and appear still when studied deep down below the surface. The sun can only heat the surface of the water and the moon and gravity control the tides.

GENETICS

Leukemia is an expression that describes a variety of cancers, which begin in the blood-forming tissues of the bone marrow, the soft material that fills the long bones in the body and produces blood cells. In leukemia, the bone marrow makes an excess of diseased white cells that cannot perform their purpose of fighting infection. When the leukemic cells begin to fill the marrow, production of healthy red cells, platelets and white cells decreases. As the number of normal cells declines, symptoms appear. Low red cell counts cause tiredness and pale skin. Low platelet counts may result in bleeding and bruising. If mature white cells are crowded out, there will be little defence against infection. The precise reason of childhood leukemia is a mystery, but definite factors are known to raise the risk of developing the disease. Children that have chromosomal abnormalities such as Downs syndrome have a higher risk of developing leukemia than the general population. . Exposure to large amounts of ionising radiation which were released by factories that were producing highly dangerous toxic chemicals have contributed in a major way towards the evolvement of leukemia.

Genetics is the science of legacy. It aims to figure out the mechanism by which the blueprints for life are passed through generations, and how variations in these blueprints are important for evolution, yet can cause disease. Humans, like every other organism, are made up of cells and we all start off as just one cell at the time of fertilisation. This cell contains two sets of genes, one from our mother and one from our father. The genes are packaged up into 46 protein parcels called chromosomes and as the single cell divides, the genes are copied so that every new cell possesses the full match of genetic material. Moreover, knowing that human body has approximately 10 trillion cells, this mechanism of copying the genes is quite remarkable. Genes are made of a chemical called DNA and each cell holds an astonishing two metres of DNA. In a human each gene acts as a formula for the making of a protein and together they make up the recipe book or blue print.

Genes that function abnormally cause genetic disorders. Since genes are passed on from one generation to the next, genetic disorders often run in families. The major categories of genetic disorder are those caused by mutations in specific genes or those caused by structural or statistical abnormalities in the chromosomes. Chromosome abnormalities are due to a disorder in the normal group of 46 chromosomes that we inherit from our parents. Individuals may have more or fewer chromosomes than normal and at the time of cell division, sections of chromosomes can be detached and the part may be lost completely and it may re-attach the wrong way round or it could connect onto another chromosome. The two sections can become detached and change positions. Furthermore, when a cell does not correctly copy its DNA, a mistake or difference in a single DNA letter may happen.Cheap University Papers on Genetics

The different DNA run is likely to result in a different protein being made and if that protein is most important or crucial for the operations of the human body, disease may take place.

Cord blood is one of the richest sources of stem cells that can ever be collected much like bone marrow. It is from the umbilical cord and the placenta right after the cord has been cut. Cord blood contains stem cells that are a back up of the blood and immunity systems. They reproduce or differentiate into other cells and the red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, white blood cells fight infection and platelets are necessary in the body for clotting. The cells from the cord blood can be used after treatments for a variety of cancer and blood diseases. Stem cells are also unique in the fact that they are the earliest most immature stem cells, safely available. Cord blood banking is the process of collecting the body from the cord right after delivery when the umbilical cord is clamped and the small amount of blood from the cord is drained and then taken to the blood bank. Then the blood containing the stem cells is frozen.

Most genetic testing now is done through amniocentesis when the fetus is 1 to 16 weeks old. But even then, the main risk is that even after going through the treatment cycle, there is no assurance that a pregnancy will be a success. The results are typically available after a wait of an extra three weeks. In this, a sample of the amniotic fluid is drawn from around the fetus. And then a floating cell from the fetus is then found and analysed. If the analysis shows that the fetus is genetically faulty, then the parents have the option of aborting the fetus. Basically all couples do chose to have an abortion. Some adults who know that they are carriers of a genetically transmitted disease decide to not have children.

As latest and fast advances in biological and medical research made it possible to analyze DNA from almost any minuscule sample of human tissue, concerns about privacy and informed consent have been raised. Complicating these issues is the paucity of information addressing tissue acquisition, use, and storage. Furthermore, human tissue is used for medical and biological research and for medical education and training. Other uses of human tissue include identification, such as in paternity testing, cases of abduction or soldiers missing in action, and forensic purposes in crime cases when biological evidence is available for comparison. The most common source of tissue is from patients following diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Tissue specimens may also be taken during autopsies performed to establish the cause of death. But, there is always one question that will be asked, is it approved and who approved it? Against such procedures people of strong religion could be against it. Moreover, a family where there is a child infected by some sort of disease, parents might ask for a PGD to create and genetically select embryos that mach to their child. During this process the parents might go through rough emotional difficulties. As they are trying to create a suitable embryo some could be aborted. As we see to save one infected child we are along the way destroying healthy children.

Marketing Mix Paper

Marketing fundamentals are often taught in terms of the old Four Ps of Marketing model Price, Product, Place, Promotion. This is a solid tool that explains how consistent, unified marketing messages are the key to business success. These concepts apply to businesses and organizations of all sizes and types.

"The Four Ps of Marketing"

Price Regular price, discount price, expected price. Price impacts first time purchases as well as customer perceptions of value and satisfaction.

Product What the organization sell. When the Four P model was written the economy was primarily based on tangible products - soap, tools, and dryers. Intangible products and services, like software and insurance, make up much more of todays economy.

Place Place refers to where products and services are sold, distribution channels, and retail or wholesale arrangements. The Internet continues to disrupt place in context of the Four Ps.

Promotion Promotion refers to the vehicles used to make customers aware of products or service. Promotion covers radio advertising, in-store samples, and coupons among others.

Consistent Unified Message is defined as a consistent unified message utilizes all Four Ps to communicate the same overall message to customers and prospective customers, as and example we want to use a Luxury Automobiles

Price Higher than average. Luxury automobiles rarely have a sale price and are rarely offered with sale equivalents like cash back offers or manufacturers rebate. When is the last time you saw an advertisement for the Fall Porsche & BMW Blowout Sale?

Product Very visible upscale quality and details. Leather interior, premium sound, automatic everything, smooth quiet ride, and free basic services like oil changes. In short, the quality and features match the higher than average price.

Place Sold in nicely appointed showrooms that are typically inside a building versus out in the cold. Customers and tire-kicking prospects get the royal treatment.

Promotion Ads run in magazines or during television shows that have upscale income and education audiences. The main advertising message tends to focus on broad vision statements like You are successful, so buy one versus functional details like Gets miles per gallon. In sum, all four elements work together. They build and support the powerful mental imagery that Luxury Automobiles create.

Companies need to be careful with inconsistent messages because this mistake can be understood as message trap - high quality and low price. This message combination often gets construed as inconsistent. Why? Consider these two phrases. You get what you pay for. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Most people view these phrases as quite stable fact. As such, products or services that make claim to both high quality, upscale attributes and low or discount pricing face challenges. Certainly there are exceptions, but most customers when faced with the high quality, low price combination ask, What is the catch? Rightly or wrongly, they assume some shortcut has been taken.

To combat this perception, businesses provide supporting messages that tell customers how they provide both high quality and low prices. Perhaps they purchase in high volume and pass on volume savings to customers perhaps they offer no-frills service - like a u bag it grocery store.

A consistent and well integrated message utilizes multiple vehicles to communicate the same message to customers. The "Four Ps of Marketing" Price, Product, Place, and Promotion is a good model that helps businesses analyze their message for consistent, unified content and themes. Inconsistent messages, especially the low-price & high-quality trap, require additional supportive messages that clarify.

The Consistent, Unified Message applies equally well to businesses and organizations of all sizes.

My ability to speak publicly is an essential tool in the field of teaching. Speaking publicly allows me to express my ideas and knowledge with certainty. The public speaking course that I am enrolled in now will prepare me to effectively communicate to other individuals with confidence. Though I may speak well to my peers, there is still room for improvement on my part, because I find it very difficult to speak in front of large audiences. I am setting goals for this class with hopes that these goals will enable me to become a better public speaker.

Every time I get in front of a group of people to speak, I can feel my heart racing, and my palms sweating. Or maybe it's the amount of people in the room that cause me to be very nervous. Suddenly, I start talking too fast, or stumble over my words. I want to conquer the fear of standing in front of people. I will do this by reciting my speech in front of a large group of my friends; I will also practice my speech in an empty classroom.

I want to be able to clearly express my ideas so that I grab my audience's attention. The only way that I can do this is if I spend a lot of time in preparing for, and researching my speech. I will also recite my speech in front of the teacher before my actual graded speech. This will help me to see the mistakes that I made, so that I can improve.

Lastly, I want to believe in myself. Ever since I entered this class, I have been having thoughts that I will get nothing higher than a "C." I am very unconfident, especially because I did very horrible on the first quiz. All weekend, I complained to my friends that I was going to fail the class, because of the quiz and because I feel that there is no way that I can deliver an "A" speech. I will overcome these thoughts by trying to think positive, and by working hard in this class. I also ask that you (Ms. Gesmundo) encourage me. Write your Goal of Public Speaking research paper

After writing this essay, I feel a little bit more confidant. I cannot give up. Besides I am in this class so that I can learn to become a better public speaker, there are no prerequisites to this course. If I keep these goals in mind throughout the semester, I should do well.

As we enter the 1st century many new issues and problems have to be dealt with, one concerning issue is that of Money and Wealth and how these material things are causing greed and shaping how we act as human beings. This issue can be seen through many texts, namely the book, The Great Gatsby, and the film, Citizen Kane, and it was only after reading and viewing these texts that my eyes were opened to the issue. The issue is also evident in many current affairs today and highlights how money and wealth have today become more important than individual qualities such as kindness and generosity. It is important, especially in todays society, that we take hold of such an issue to prevent ourselves from becoming too materialistic and remembering what really is important, rather than living only to have money and become wealthy.

Upon reading the text, The Great Gatsby, I was able to see how the issue of money and wealth leads to greed and has today become more important that personal qualities which make us who we are. Although many may believe that money and wealth is the key to a happy life many others would have to disagree. In the text, The Great Gatsby, the audience is forced to believe or at least think that to be successful or happy, one must be rich. This idea is conveyed many times throughout the text. One example is the fact that when the main character, Jay Gatsby, firsts meets Daisy he cannot marry to her as he is a poor young solider and she is a wealthy women. Later on in the text when they meet again Jay has become wealthy, and they then consider marriage and take part in an affair, suggesting that only because Jay is now rich is he fit to marry a women such as Daisy. Is this how we want our world to work? Is it fair that we judge people, not by their own personal qualities, but by the degree of their wealth?

Another text that arises concern to the issue of money and wealth is the film, Citizen Kane. This text too suggests that money and wealth leads to greed and certainly influences the way people act as money and wealth are considered more important than personal qualities. This is conveyed as the main character, Citizen Kane, is unable to love or be loved, because his money has made him who he is and has taken from him the ability to look for or even have himself personal qualities which make people who they are. At one point in the film he even says himself, If I hadnt been very rich, I might have been a really great man, suggesting that his money and wealth has denied him from becoming a good person.

Personally, I believe that money and wealth does not entirely lead to greed and a materialistic view, but I do believe they play a large part in triggering and sustaining these alternative qualities and views. A prime example of how money and wealth has triggered greed and a materialistic view is Bill Gates, also known as the Microsoft man, one of the richest people in the world. Instead of playing fair Bill Gates has monopolised the computer software business by stealing other people ideas and incorporating them into his own Microsoft software. By doing this he is not only being greedy, something of which that money and wealth has made him do, but he is denying others of what they deserve through his greed for even more money and wealth.Buy cheap The 21st Century - Has money and wealth taken over? term paper
